IMAGINE GOING TO YOUR SINK, AND NOT BEING ABLE TO GET A DRINK OF WATER.
How would you get through your day without running water? Without a drink, without a shower, without being able to flush the toilet? Water access is fundamental to daily life, and it’s at risk of Being taken away from thousands across the city.
Water rates in rural and urban communities have increased over 41 percent since 2010, and in some places much more, leading to unpaid bills and water shutoffs for thousands of families. You can help those in your neighborhood by signing the Water Affordability Pledge.

EVERY AMERICAN HAS A RIGHT TO CLEAN, SAFE, AND AFFORDABLE WATER – A BASIC NEED FOR LIFE.
Water costs are often felt disproportionately by communities of color. In 2019, 93% of water
shutoffs due to water bill nonpayment in Detroit impacted communities with 75% African
American residents. Water should be clean, safe, and affordable for everyone.
Water affordability is essential to preserving and maintaining public health, but our government
isn’t treating it that way. Ask your community leaders and state representatives to commit to
providing a permanent clean, safe, and affordable water structure by supporting the Water Affordability Platform. Sign the pledge TODAY!
