DETROIT, Mich—Experts from We the of People Detroit, Freshwater Future, the National Wildlife Federation, and Moonshot Missions will host a virtual briefing followed by a Q&A on Wednesday, November 30th, to address the implementation of statewide water affordability programs across the state of Michigan.
The briefing will serve as the release of a landmark new report that investigates the critical question: what would it take to have affordable drinking water in Michigan?
Studies have shown that for decades, Michiganders have been paying too much of their household income for water. To address this human rights and public health issue, researchers have looked into whether or not water affordability programs, that are mutually beneficial to residents and water utilities, are possible for all Michigan communities — and what it would take to make those programs a reality. Recommendations for stakeholders at all levels will be discussed.
